“Feeling Blue” – Simple Dark Blue Nail Idea

Posted on May 17, 2012 | 0 comments

As I’ve confessed in past posts, tweets and statuses….I am a Shellac-a-holic! I moved recently and haven’t been back to my favorite nail bar in a while so I’ve been getting a little creative with my nails at home. Aside from using my Konad nail art stamps, I don’t do any nail art because I can’t ever seem to get things to go right on both hands! *argh!*

I bought these two blue hues for about $3.00 each which is really good for nail polish, and I was releived that the bright blue (Sapphire Siren) only needed 2 coats to be shiny and opaque. It’s a pretty blue that really is pretty subtle even though it looks really bright with flash.

I just used electrical tape to make a diagonal line on my nails and painted the tips with the shiny blue color (Blue Freeze). I only needed one coat and the effect (after it dried) was really pretty and wearable for every day.

I haven’t ever worn blue on my nails like this. I tend to stick with pinks, reds, corals and maybe orange if I’m feeling spunky. ;)

I do like these colors! They’re fun and this simple “nail art” or design is fun and can be used with contrasting colors or similar shades of the same color.

What’s on YOUR nails now?

Motherhood : The Word DOES Have a Meaning

Posted on May 10, 2012 | 0 comments

TIME Magazine and Dr. Sears ask: Are You Mom Enough?

Of course this question has sparked blog post after blog post. I am not offended by the photo, the article or anything other than the fact that women are criticizing one another and competing to be the “best mom”. What does that even mean?

“Motherhood”

Suffix

-hood

  1. condition or state of being the thing or being in the role denoted by the word it is suffixed to, usually a noun.
    child – childhood
  2. group sharing a specified condition or state.
    brother – brotherhood
    neighbor – neighborhood

Did you read that?! A group. GROUP!

Why bash one another?

I cloth-diapered my son for the first 6 months, breastfed for 2 years and still co-sleep. What parenting philosophy fits me? Honestly, I don’t care. I don’t call myself an “Attachment Parent” or a “Free-Range Parent” or any other title to validate the choices I make.

CafeMom is a website I rarely visit anymore, but when I was a brand new mom, I spent a lot of time in the forums sharing stories and making new “mommy friends”. I was a member of breastfeeding moms groups and cloth diapering groups and most of the other moms in those groups were very nice. During this period of time I noticed that there was a serious “competition” among moms to be “better” than each other and I was flabberghasted.

What’s going on women?!

Breastfeeding is a choice. Cloth diapering is a choice. One choice may or may not be “better” than the next.

We should never make someone feel badly or criticize the way they choose to raise their children as long as it doesn’t physically harm them! There are SO many reasons why people do the things they do, and it’s no ones business but theirs. What about women who’s breast milk doesn’t provide enough for their baby? Are they inadequate mothers? Absolutely not!

I will never question whether I’m “Mom” enough or ANYTHING-enough because as long as I’m enough for myself and my family I am happy. (and you should be too!)

With all that said….

Orange you glad it’s almost Summer?

Posted on May 10, 2012 | 0 comments

I loooove that Tangerine Tango is Pantone’s color of the year!

Orange (as it were) has been my favorite color for as long as I can remember. I actually had a pair of bright orange corduroy pants in the 8th grade that I wore with absolute glee. I don’t know if I pulled off that look successfully, but I thought I did. Hehe

Shades of orange are everywhere and I’m excited!

Tip: *Pair orange with white,  nude, grey or navy as a neutral to avoid the “Halloween” look with black and orange.

So, I have this fabulous nail polish from Revlon called Mad About Mango and it’s the most Summery shade of orange you’ve ever seen!

(Couldn’t seem to get the lighting quite right, but this nail color is a gorgeous shade of orange!)

I’ll post a tutorial on this nail art soon because it’s super easy! I have been having a lot of fun with my Konad nail art stamps although it does take a bit of practice to get it perfect.

This particular design is from the Konad M50 plate.

Since I’m inspired by the color, I put together a little orange inspiration collage.

How do you feel about orange? Are you wearing it this Summer? …or ever?
