Fashion Week San Diego Press Conference 2013

Monday night I attended a press conference during which Fashion Week San Diego announced the designers that have been selected for the 2013 fashion show. It was absolutely fabulous and made me so excited for this year’s upcoming events! Last year was incredible and highlighted local designers, but this year will include designers from all over the world (including San Diego).DSCN0137_sized

My Post-FWSD Thoughts. #inspiration

Fashion Week San Diego inspired me more than I can truly articulate in words.

Ever since I found out about FWSD (back in August), I have been counting the days and excitedly awaiting what I hoped would be a wonderful experience. (and it was!)

I have to frame my excitement by explaining that I am a San Diego native, (for the most part) and on top of that my dad grew up here as well. There is no place I feel more at home and no place I want to live other than America’s Finest City!

Having Fashion Week in San Diego featuring local designers was a little-local-fashionista’s dream!

I attended FWSD as Press, which was incredible because I was able to attend some preview events (including one in particular) that were absolutely fabulous!

On “night 4″ (Thursday the 4th), FIDM San Diego hosted an open discussion with industry professionals about San Diego Style. The discussion started off with the three panelists introducing themselves (quite an impressive bunch! – Norm Zwali, Brian Hawkins and JoAnn Jack)  and then continued into a great conversation that included attendees. We talked about fashion, style and the things that make San Diego special!

The night really warmed my heart! The panelists and VIP attendees all expressed a desire to grow our city’s fashion scene and support the awesome that IS San Diego! I LOVED IT!

Fashion Week San Diego : Fashion Show - Runway

It’s funny because I feel like the actual Fashion Show should have been my favorite part (and don’t get me wrong…it too was amazing), but being in a room full of people who share a passion that I too have shared for a lifetime was just…refreshing!

One thing that stuck with me (and was said by all 3 panelists respectively) was that they “knew they wanted to work/be in the fashion industry” … they all described “just knowing”  and that was beautiful to hear! I think it’s important that we always follow our gut and our “wants” when it comes to career. Having that “feeling” that you’re at peace when you’re do something you love is a sign to stay on that path!

It takes passionate people to create glorious new things!

Viva la innovacion! ;)

PS – Finally got FWSD fashion show pics on my computer! I’ll be adding some of them soon! :)

$200 of Furniture for $49 at Mor Furniture for Less from Spotted Fox

You might be wondering…”Lua, is that a typo? Surely you can’t mean…” OH, but I do! Spotted Fox is giving you over 75% off at Mor Furniture with this awesome deal!

I know what you’re thinking…what’s the catch? There isn’t one, and that’s the best part. Here’s how it works: Simply go shopping at Mor Furniture, any time in the next 6 months, pick out what you want, and you’ll get a $200 reduction on your invoice when you give them your Spotted Fox voucher (that cost you only $49). You can even use your voucher for furniture or accessories, discontinued and clearance items!

Mor  Furniture has six San Diego locations and a wide variety of furniture for every room in your house including the kids’ rooms. At this incredible price I think it’s definitely worth purchasing and using to either get essential items you need or upgrade some older furniture.

How beautiful is this dining room set?! But with a 5 year old…I think I have to wait until he grows up a bit more before I buy anything white. ;)

Read more about this Spotted Fox 75% off sale going on through Tuesday, July 3rd.  Make sure to read the FAQs and take a look through the photo gallery on the website. You can even bring the kids to the showroom! They have be movies, treats and video games to keep them entertained while you enjoy looking around.

Fashionista Heaven at the #RackOpening

Last night I trekked down to Plaza Bonita Mall. (Yes! I’m mobile again! …but more on that later.)

Next Thursday the latest Nordstrom Rack location will be opening and they were lovely enough to invite  myself and other locals to take a sneak peek and shop the store before it opens.

When I get invitations such as this I almost have to pinch myself because it’s like…what? me? exclusive shopping event? whaaa? YES!!!!!!!!!

*Ok, I shall try to keep it together.*

The first time I ever walked into a Nordstrom Rack I was in Washington state with my mom and we were just visiting but I was hooked!

If you’ve never shopped at Nordstrom Rack or aren’t familiar with what it is, the easiest way to think of it is CLEARANCE. (Ooohh and you all know how much I love that word.) It’s fabulous because you find all the brands you love like; Steve Madden, Betsey Johnson, Calvin Klein, Free People, Juicy Couture, Stila and tons more and half the price!

Contain your excitement & read on.

I spent most of my time in the shoe department (as usual), but it’s just soooo hard to resist Steve Maddens for $40! But I did! I ended up getting the dress in the picture, a BCBG Max Azaria cardigan and a pair of VANS (my pumps were killing me!). <—I’ll have to post outfit pics on my Tumblr or somewhere.

When shopping (like with everything) there has to be a balance. I am definitely a ‘bargain’ shopper but that doesn’t mean I won’t buy something with a higher price tag. After my shopping trip last night (and after watching a few episodes of How I Met Your Mother), I decided to make a chart:

In my humble opinion the ideal purchase would be something that falls just above the ‘middle’. Something that’s good quality at a reasonable price. For example; at Nordstrom Rack I saw some True Religion jeans for $75. Anyone who’s seen those jeans at full retail price knows they can go from $200-$400 a pair! So really $75 is a total steal! While I’m not into designer jeans, I loooove shoes and Betsey Johnson accessories so it definitely feels good to know I don’t have to break the bank to have what I want. ;-)

It honestly had been a while since the last time I shopped at Nordstrom Rack, but I’m so glad I went to last night’s event to be reminded of the aweseomness!

:)

Have you gone shopping lately? What Fall fashion item have you added to your wardrobe recently?

P.S. The Nordstrom Rack at Plaza Bonita Mall will be opening Thursday [Oct.27]  at 9:00 a.m. and giving away a great tote with any purchase to first 1000 custies!

IN THE INTEREST OF FULL DISCLOSURE I SHALL ADD THAT AS GUESTS AT THE EVENT WE DID RECIEVE NORDSTROMS GIFT CARDS WHICH I USED TO COVER PART OF MY PURCHASE AT THE EVENT. THIS IN NO WAY INFLUENCED MY OPINION IN THIS POST, I JUST WANTED TO SHARE MY THOUGHTS AND EXPERIENCE. CMP.LY/2
