5 easy ways to dress in a way that maximizes the ‘illusion of height’. These tips are easy to incorporate to the clothing already hanging in your closet.
#1 – ‘Mono-tone’ on bottom: The reason ballet dancers wear pink tights and pink ballet slippers is to create the illusion of an extremely long leg.

In the same way, when dressing you can do an all-black bottom combination like: black tights & pumps or black leggings & boots. It will provide the same “long-leg” illusion.
Nude-color pumps and shoes are in this season, and with some sheer tights you can create the same effect only lighter for Spring/Summer!
#2 – “Create-a-Waist!” A high-waist pant or even an empire-waist dress will “create a waist” that gives the illusion of length to your lower half.

#3 – Vertical lines: The multi-purpose pattern! Vertical lines are not only elongating on the figure, but also slimming. Try pin-stripe pants for the office or a vertically striped maxi-dress!

#4 – Stay proportional with your accessories: This is a BIG one (no pun intended)! Yes, oversized accessories are in fashion and you don’t have to compromise that. A small frame draped in XXL accessories only further accentuates the ‘smallness’ of that frame.
NOT proportional. Bag should be MUCH smaller for her petite frame.
Here are some simple tips/examples:
- A 5’5’’ or shorter woman should never wear a purse over 17” in either length or height. (even that is quite big)
- Necklaces should not be longer than your torso.
- Larger earrings should be long rather than bulky.
#5 – Tunic Tops!
A tunic top with lengthen your torso and also is great for camouflaging any imperfections around the hip/but area.

While browsing to check out other fashionistas’ tips, I cam across several people with this gloriously OBVIOUS TIP:
HEELS! A great pair of heels or wedges will give you an instant 3 inches or more.
